Both suburbs are close enough to most hotels that travel logistics are rarely a deciding factor. Start there and expand only if you need to.

If the CBD and Northbridge do not show what you are looking for on the day, expand to Subiaco and Fremantle. Both are quieter, more residential, and tend to attract a slightly different style of profile.
